H₂O & Your Health
Controlling the body’s thermostat? Check. Regulating blood pressure? Check. Energy to function as a human in society? Check. Although water consumption is one of the most neglected considerations in our diet, it plays an essential role in nearly every biological process in the body.
Here’s why you don’t want to take your water intake for granted:
If you’re not actively focusing on hydration throughout the day, there’s a good chance you are somewhat dehydrated, which could be negatively affecting your energy, immunity, and your appearance. Be aware that the fewer vegetables, fruits and legumes you are eating, and the more processed foods you include in your diet, the more water you’ll need to consume to compensate. The general rule is 8 glasses a day but the jury is out if you’re an athlete, live in high altitudes or have specific health or training goals.
With the scorching hot and humid summer in Aventura approaching, hydration becomes even more important. If you’re the type of person that hates drinking water because there’s no flavor, try adding fruits, or herbs to your water bottle for refreshing flavor filled and healthy hydration!
We’ve made it easy for you to increase your water intake with tasty and delicious water recipes on our Pinterest page. (click here!) My personal favorite is fresh mint leaves with lemon slices. You might be an orange and basil kind of person (no judgement).
Here are also 3 easy eats to increase your water intake, all containing greater than 90% water:
- Cucumber and watermelon (my favorites!)
- Grapefruit, cantaloupe, peaches.
- Zucchini, celery, tomato, cabbage, spinach broccoli.
